Church of wood in Chiloe.jpg The Churches of Chiloé in Chile are a very interesting phenomenon from the Architectural point of view. They are made entirely in native timber in an island renown for its damp and rigurous weather.

Built in the 18th and 19th centuries when Chiloé was still stubbornly part of the Spanish Crown possesions, they represent the culmination of a successful fusion of European Jesuit culture and local native peoples skill and traditions: an excellent example of mestizo culture.

The Churches of Chiloé have been part of the World Heritage Sites since 2000.
