Cheonan is a city in South Chungcheong province, South Korea. It is located at , about 50 miles south of Seoul. The city is connected to Seoul and Daejeon, both by road and by train. Regular Gyeongbu Line trains stop at Cheonan Station in the city center, while KTX express trains stop at Cheonanasan Station. Seoul Subway Line 1 has been extended to Cheonan, and metro trains began running between Seoul and Cheonan in January 2005.

Cheonan is known for several agricultural products including grapes and Chinese white pears. The tightly-packed city center is surrounded by small mountains. The main tourist attraction is the nearby "Independence Hall," a collection of patriotic museums, monuments and gardens, including "the museum of Japanese Aggression." The city is also known for a small walnut-flavored cake in the size and shape of a walnut.
