A Chelsea girl (also Chelsea, skinhead girl, or skingirl) is a girl or woman who is part of the skinhead subculture. The term refers to her hairstyle, which entails shaving the crown and occiput of her head and leaving the front, back and often the sides as fringes. The hairstyle can also be called a feather cut.
Although more common in America than in the UK, the term originates from the fact that it was a style first commonly seen on the Kings Road, in Chelsea, London, England. The Kings Road from the 1960s until the mid-Eighties was widely known as a haunt for punks, mods, skinheads, etc. The subsequent "gentrification" of the area around the King's Road has left only one monument to these times: Ad-Hoc, a clothes shop.
