A Chase is a type of horse race which is run over fences which have a minimum height of four-and-a-half feet, unlike the obstacles involved in steeplechasing. They are relatively thick are made to resemble hedges. If a horse makes a jumping error the horse will often fall over. Chasing is a form of National Hunt racing and the distances of these races ranges from two miles, to four-and-a-half miles. Some of the most famous chases are the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the highly prestigious Grand National, which is also referred to as a Steeplechase.
