Champlain Valley is a region of the United States around Lake Champlain in Vermont and New York.

High School Mascot

Champlain Valley Union High School, located in Hinesburg, Vermont had created controversy because their school's mascot was the Crusaders. Some argued that the name Crusaders is an important school tradition. Others saw it as a symbol of religious oppression. On June 14, 2005, the School Board decided to pick a new name for the school’s teams by fall.

Alternative names: Redhawks, Bobcats, Dhimmis, and Red Wolves were suggested for their team's name.

The school board decided to go with Redhawks, despite an overwhelming student vote to retain the Crusader mascot.
