Central America, as defined by the UN geoscheme, is a "subregion" of Latin America and the Caribbean and, consists of eight nations:

• Belize
• Costa Rica
• El Salvador
• Guatemala
• Honduras
• Mexico*
• Nicaragua
• Panama

* Most other sources exclude Mexico from Central America (see Location of Mexico).
