The order Zingiberales is recognised by many taxonomists, including the APG II system, of 2003, which assigns this order to the monocots, in the angiosperms. To be exact, the order is assigned to the clade commelinids, which in turn is assigned to the monocots.

The order includes well known plants like bananas and ginger.
