The X-Mansion is both the base of operations of the X-Men (comic book superheroes) and the school for young mutants seeking to learn control over their abilities as well as a higher education. The Xavier Institute of Higher Learning, formerly Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, has seen many mutants pass through its doors, including the five original X-Men (and those who came after them) and the original New Mutants. Though groups of young mutants such as X-Terminaters and Generation X were not instructed at Xavier Manor, they are still considered students because they were taught by X-Men. Until the events of Decimation, the Institute provided education for over a hundred mutant students.
