Voluntary organisations are defined, by some, as organisations which are mainly run by volunteers, or which rely on volunteers in order to carry out significant portions of their work. Others define them as organisations which are non-statutory and independent of state control, and which do not distribute profits for private gain. Often voluntary organisations are also charities.
