Banks of the European Union are first of all

  • financial institutions of the European Union and
  • privately owned European banks with customers and a network of branches in more than one EU member state.

Due to the increasing integration of financial services within the eurozone, all banks within the Union can be considered also to be banks of the European Union. (see banks by country)
