Catalog merchants were a traditional form of retailing that is now mostly defunct in the United States. Aside from legendary department store chains Sears and JCPenney that also had catalog sales, some chains specifically were set up as catalog merchants. A couple (and now-defunct) chains were Best Products, Brendle's, Ellman's, and Service Merchandise.
