Carlton Cards Retail, Inc. is a subsidiary of American Greetings and owns and operates its card and gift stores throughout North America.
The company was originally founded as Carlton Cards Limited by Harry Harshman in Toronto, Ontario in 1920. The company was immediately successful and by 1933 became incorporated. In 1956, Carlton Cards was purchased by American Greetings. Since the purchase, all cards produced by American Greetings have had the "Carlton Cards" logo in Canada rather than the "American Greetings" logo as seen in the United States.
