This article is about the color. For other uses, see cardinal.

Cardinal is a vivid red, which gets its name from the cassocks worn by Catholic cardinals. The family of birds takes its name from the color.

Cardinal is the official color of Stanford University, though the athletic teams's official colors are cardinal and white. (school athletic teams are called "The Cardinal", following the example of Harvard's "The Crimson"). Other school colors described as cardinal include those of Iowa State University, Brown University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Willamette University, and the University of Southern California.

Other color systems

The corresponding Pantone Matching System (PMS) color is 200. However, Stanford's PMS color is 201.

The hex triplet for the web-safe version of the color is #CC2233.
