The Canadian national women's ice hockey team is controlled by Hockey Canada. Canada has been by far the most dominant women's hockey team in international play. They have only lost a total of four games in both the Olympics and the World Championships, all against their rivals, the Americans. Two of those losses came at the 1998 Winter Olympics, and one came at the 2005 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships, the only two major tournaments where they lost. In recent years, the team has been more or less at par with the U.S. team. Canada has 62,640 female players (2005). The current head coach is Melody Davidson.
