California's 48th congressional district is located in Orange County in southern California, and includes the cities of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest (formerly known as El Toro), Tustin, and parts of Newport Beach, San Juan Capistrano, and Santa Ana. Cox won his last bid for re-election with 65% of the vote.
John Campbell has been the representative in the United States House of Representatives since December 7, 2005. He replaced Chris Cox who had resigned on August 2, 2005 to become chairmain of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
