Burns Philp is an Australian based company involved in the production and distribution of food ingredients and consumer branded food, beverage and related products. The Group operates internationally with leading products and brands enjoying significant market shares in each of its principal markets. A partner in Burns Philp was Sir Robert Philp, twice Premier of Queensland.

Its product ranges include packaged bread and other baked goods, snack foods, breakfast cereals, edible oils and meal components. One of the most significant subsidiaries of the business in terms of profit is Goodman Fielder, Australasia’s largest baker, which has just recently been floated in an IPO (initial public offering).

New Zealand billionaire businessman Graeme Hart is the chairman and majority shareholder (54 percent) of Burns Philip and recruited Australian food executive Peter Margin to run its highly successful subsidiary Goodman Fielder. Just prior, Peter, ex CEO of National Foods Limited left the company after a hostile takeover by the Philippine company San Miguel Corporation.
