Brum is a common colloquial name for the city of Birmingham in England. It is short for Brummagem, a name for the city in the Brummie dialect. Elsewhere, in earlier periods of history, Brummagem has had negative connotations, referring to cheap or inferior manufactured goods, but in the UK, it is invariably understood to refer to the city. The term Brummie refers to Birmingham's inhabitants, and their accent and dialect, as well as being a general adjective used to denote a connection with Birmingham.
Brum is also a children's television series about an intelligent car of the same name and its adventures in Birmingham, from the onomatopoeic "brum, brum" representation of the sound of a car engine.
