Braselton is a town in Jackson and Gwinnett Counties, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,206. Braselton was named after the Braselton family that has lived in the area for some time.
The town was bought by actress Kim Basinger in 1989 for $20 million, with the hopes of establishing Braselton as a tourist attraction with movie studios and a film festival, but she met financial difficulties and sold it in 1993. The town is now owned by developer Wayne Mason. It is also the headquarters of the Panoz Motor Sports Group.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 18.6 km² (7.2 mi²). All of it is land and none is covered by water.
There were 459 households out of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.6% were married couples living together, 7.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.4% were non-families. 18.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the town the population was spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 31.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $56,563, and the median income for a family was $64,667. Males had a median income of $46,477 versus $27,292 for females. The per capita income for the town was $39,135. About 4.1% of families and 6.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.9% of those under age 18 and 12.6% of those age 65 or over.
