Bourges is a town and commune in central France. It is the préfecture (capital) of the département of Cher, and was also the capital of the former province of Berry.

Bourges is located on the Yèvre river.

History


The city's name is derived from the name Bituriges, the name of the original inhabitants.

Its Gothic cathedral (built 11951255) was added to the list of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1992.
