Bolsover is a town in Derbyshire, England, not far from Chesterfield. It is 145 miles from London, 18 miles from Sheffield and 54 miles from Manchester. It is the main town in the Bolsover district, which has a population of about 70,000.

The civil parish for the town is called Old Bolsover. It includes the town (including the New Bolsover area), along with Shuttlewood, Stanfree, Oxcroft and Whaley, and has a population of 11,291 (2001 census).

Bolsover has had a castle since the Norman period, which was originally the seat of the Peveril family. The first Peveril was the son of Norman William the Conqueror. The existing building was erected in 1613.

The major industry of the area used to be coal mining but this has declined throughout all of England. Bolsover Colliery closed in 1993.

The MP for Bolsover is Dennis Skinner (Labour) who is nicknamed – sometimes affectionately – as the 'Beast of Bolsover'.
