Bukan (in Kurdish also called: Bokan) is a city south of Lake Urmia about 1,300 metres above sea level. It lies in the West Azarbaijan province of Iran with 225,391 inhabitants * making it the second populous city of the province.

The name "Bukan" is derived from Kurdish word "Bûk" meaning "bride" so the word Bukan means "The Brides" *. The population of Bukan is Kurdish.
