The Bob & Tom Show is a nationally-syndicated radio program established by Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold at radio station WFBQ in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1983. Thanks to ClearChannel Communications, a major media company, the program enjoys extensive market penetration. This program is among the highest rated in American radio. Since January 1995, the show has been syndicated nationally.
The show is hosted by Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold, and they are joined by Chick McGee who acts as sports commentator as well as comic foil, and Kristi Lee who is the news anchor. The show is a comedy variety show with significant interfacing with its listeners. Each day, there are usually several guests to the show, including many comedians seeking a national fan base, but also sports and other celebrities with Indiana and Indianapolis connections. Also, during the show, there are often pre-recorded comic songs and skits played, including many from a large library of archived pieces.
In 1993, 1995, 1997, and 1999 Bob & Tom were recipients of the Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters. Their show and the Rush Limbaugh program are the only four time Marconi Award winners.
From 1991 to 1998, Bob & Tom received The Billboard Magazine Radio Personality of the Year award. In 1994 Bob & Tom were named Sagamores of the Wabash, the state of Indiana's highest honor. In 1996 the show was awarded the National Chairman's Citation Award from the Leukemia Society of America.
They are well known for their charitable work. The 40 albums they have produced since 1986 have generated millions of dollars which they have donated to various local charities.
The "Bob & Tom Show" is also known for its racy and raunchy humor, and is often promoted as being "for adults only." Following the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show controversy in 2004, the potential of increased enforcement of decency standards by the Federal Communications Commission compelled Bob and Tom to stop playing many of their most popular songs and skits, including their song "Camel Toe".
