The Blue-eyed Cockatoo, Cacatua ophthalmica is a large white parrot, up to 50cm in body length, with erectile yellow white crest, grey color beak and feet, and prominent light blue ring around the eye, that gives this cockatoo its name.
Both sexes are similar and pairs for life. Male has dark brown iris while female's reddish brown.
Inhabits and endemic to lowland forest and hills of New Britain in Papua New Guinea, the Blue-eyed Cockatoo is the only cockatoo in the Bismarck Archipelago. This species is also one of very few birds that can used its feet like hands, to handle objects or bring foods to its beak.
A common species throughout its range, the Blue-eyed Cockatoo is evaluated as Least Concern on IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
