Berlin-Mitte or Mitte is the most central borough of Berlin (Mitte is German for centre). Mitte encompasses Berlin's historic core. The area includes some of the most important tourist sites of Berlin (like the Pergamon Museum, Brandenburg Gate, Charité and the Reichstag, among others), most of which were in East Berlin.

In 2001, Berlin's boroughs were reorganized. The former borough of Mitte, located entirely within the former East Berlin, was combined with the boroughs of Wedding and Tiergarten (both of which formerly belonged to West Berlin) to form the new Mitte borough. The new borough encompasses an area of 39.47 km² and has, as of 2003, about 320,700 inhabitants. Its current mayor is Joachim Zeller (CDU).
