Be (Б, б) is the second letter in the Cyrillic alphabet. It represents , a voiced bilabial plosive similar to the English pronunciation of b. In the Russian language, б may also represent a voiceless word-finally or before a voiceless consonant, and a before a palatalizing vowel. It looks approximately like a figure 6, and should not be confused with the Cyrillic letter Ve, which is shaped like Latin capital letter B and indicates , the voiced labiodental fricative. Both letters are derived from Greek beta. When hand-written, the lower-cased б may look like the lower-cased delta, δ.
The old name for б was Buki. It had no numerical value.
