The Battle of Garigliano was fought on December 29, 1503 between a Spanish army under Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba and a French army commanded by the Marquis of Saluzzo. Cordoba launched a surprise attack against the unsuspecting French and desicively defeated them, bringing an end to significant French resistance in Naples.
