Avellaneda is a port city in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the head town of the Avellaneda Partido. Its population is 328,980 as per the .

Avellaneda is a suburb in the metropolitan area of Greater Buenos Aires and is connected to Buenos Aires City by several bridges over the Riachuelo River. A major rail center, Avellaneda is also one of the foremost commercial and industrial centers of Argentina. It contains textile mills, meat-packing and grain-processing plants, oil refineries, metallurgical works, extensive docking facilities, and markets for farm and ranch products. The city is also the home of two of the most important Argentine football clubs: Independiente and Racing Club.

The city was formerly known as Barracas al Sur; it was renamed in 1904 after the statesman Nicolás Avellaneda.
