The Austrian Football Bundesliga (in German, the Österreichische Fußball-Bundesliga) is the highest national league club competition in Austrian football, which began in the 1974 / 75 season. It is the league in which where the national football (soccer) champions are determined. and the starting points for the UEFA Cup is played.
The Austrian Bundesliga has been its own registered association since December 1st, 1991. 10 member teams make up the Austrian Football Association. Its two divisions carry, at present. the designations "T-Mobile Bundesliga" and "Red Zac 1st league".
The competition for this championship was created, and organized, by the Niederösterreichischen Fußball-Verband (literally, the Lower Austrian Football Federation), played around the title of 'Niederösterreichischen Landesmeisters' (which translates as Lower Austrian National Champion). Only with the introduction (first) of the Nationalliga in the season of 1937 / 38 itself also teams from the lands of the Federal Republic were allowed qualify for the highest division. After Austria's annexation by Germany during World War 2, the Federal Republic teams were immediately integrated into the German Gauliga, however they were again excluded after the war.
Only with introduction of the all-Austrian Staatsliga A in 1949 did teams from the whole federal territory finally play for the Austrian Championship. However, the road to the organisation of the Staatsliga was difficult. In the course of the conflict between the representatives of the amateur and the professional aspects of the sport it came on June 30th, 1949 to the excerpt of the Viennese league from the football federation and to the establishment of its own competition. At the statutory Presidential Election Council of the only a few days later the surprising turn took place and upon the request of Lower Austria unanimously the introduction of the Staatsliga was finally decided. The organization lay in the hands of the Fußballstaatsliga Österreich, which was created for this purpose. With introduction (second) of the Nationalliga in the year 1965 again the Austrian Football Association transferred the organization of the highest division. In the 1974/75 season it finally came to the introduction of the Bundesliga, which, still led by the Austrian Football Association, aligned both of the highest divisions in Austria.
26 years after dissolution of the independent Staatsliga on 17 November 1991 the Austrian Football Bundesliga was constituted again as own federation and on 1 December 1991 of the Austrian Football Association as 10 members taken up.
The Bundesliga is legally a non-profit association. The 20 teams the T-Mobile Bundesliga and the second-class Red Zac 1st league are the members of the federation. Outward the Bundesliga is represented by the acting executive committee, supported by an office. This supports the supervisory board during the operational conversion. Each association of the two professional leagues is represented in the conferences of president; these have advisory function in all affairs meeting the Bundesliga.
The statement of the economic efficiency for the distribution of a license for the two professional leagues takes place in first instance via the fifth senate, the Bundesliga license committee.
The table-last rises at the end of a play yearly in talks Zac first league off, the master of this league ascends for it into the t-mobile federal league.

Deviations exist regarding the promotion and relegation of teams into the regional leagues. The table-last Red Zac 1st League descends depending upon Land of the Federal Republic affiliation into one of the Regionalligen (or regional leagues) in the east, center and west. The next to last association Red Zac 1st League plays in two Relegation games against one of the three champions from the regional leagues around the affiliation to the second play class. The winner of these Relegation remains and/or rises in talks to Zac league up. The second Aufsteiger is likewise determined in two Relegation games by the two remaining regional league champions. To the participation in the Relegationsspielen entitled the respective champions of the regional leagues are presupposed, licensing by the senate 5 of the federal league. Will the license for economic reasons refused is awarded to an association the Relegationsgegner the ascent right. also in this case, in principle no Relegations or ascent right comes to the vice-master of a regional league.
After a resolution of the Bundesliga, Red Zac 1st League in the 2006/07 season on 12 to 16 teams supplemented whereby in the future again all three regional league champions directly into the first league to ascend to be allowed. Over the delivering mode and the final number of associations for the next play year still one advises.
