The 2006 general election for the National Council in Austria will be held on 1 October 2006.
At the moment, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and the Alliance for the Future of Austria (BZÖ) form a coalition government. The embroilment of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) in the BAWAG affair might play a role in the election.
