The Australian Film Institute (AFI), established in 1958, is an organisation that promotes Australian film and television through the annual AFI Awards, a membership program and AFI film events throughout the year.
The AFI is affiliated with LAAFTA, is the Los Angeles Australian Film & Television Association based in Los Angeles.
About the AFI
Founded in 1958, the AFI is Australia's foremost screen culture organisation. The AFI has promoted Australian film and television for over 48 years and is responsible for producing Australia's premier film and television awards, the annual AFI Awards.
As a producer of the industry's night of nights, the AFI plays a central role in the way in which the Australian film industry is known and understood, both locally and internationally, and is crucial to the definition, business and culture of the Australian film, television and other moving image industries.
AFI Membership
The AFI is a membership-based organisation. Every person that joins the AFI not only supports the Australian film industry, but also has exclusive access to AFI events, services and discounts at various cinemas throughout the year.
History
The Australian Film Institute was founded in 1958 as a non-profit organisation devoted to developing an active film culture in Australia and fostering engagement between the general public and the film industry. The work of the institute is supported by Government funding, Corporate Sponsors and approximately 10,000 members nationally. The AFI promotes Australian film and television through the annual AFI Awards, a Membership Program and AFI film events throughout the year.
