Ataşehir is a modern residential neighbourhood in the district of Kadıköy in İstanbul, Turkey. It is located at the junction of motorways O-2 and O-4 on the Anatolian part of İstanbul.
The project is designed as 18,000 skyscraper condominiums which offer luxury residents for 80,000 people with higher income. Ataşehir, hosting headquarters and offices of notable companies, is also a business and trading center. Facilities like tennis courts, gyms and movie theaters make it a popular sports and leisure place. Ataşehir was awarded Habitat prize.
In 2006, 8596 housing units are present within the site, housing approximately 35000 people. Ongoing projects in the area are Kentplus Ataşehir and Ataşehir Residence blocks.
Unlike another satellite city in İstanbul, Bahçeşehir, no single familiy house types are designed for the site. most buildings are high rise blocks, some around the main public square can be considered skyscrapers. Another difference between the two sites is that Ataşehir lacks recreational areas in comparison to Bahçeşehir.
The plan grows around a linear axis around the main boulevard, Ataşehir Bulvarı. The site involves primary schools, one high school-Ataşehir Lisesi a cinema, a migros supermarket, a post office, many real estate agencies and various services and shops. Kadıköy municipality collects the garbage. recycling bins are available within site. heating is supplied using natural gas.
Ataşehir offers 55m2 studio houses which are commonly preferred by Yeditepe University students, 2+1 houses varying from 67 to 110 m2, 3+1 houses varying from 90 to 135 m2 and 4+1 houses varying from 134 to 150 m2.
The site was designed with insufficient car parks. Most families have more than 1 car while the parking area within site predictably does not provide enough space. various types of car parks above ground have been used, the underground car parks are one storey only.
Proximity by car is very favorable while choices of public transport are very limited. For private car owners the site is; 3 min distance to Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge 4 minutes to E-5 and İzmir-Ankara TEM highway 5 minutes to Carrefour and Metro malls 10 minutes to Bağdat street 15 minutes to Sabiha Gökçen airport
