Asylum is a 2005 film directed by David Mackenzie. It is based on the novel Asylum by Patrick McGrath and was adapted for the screen by Patrick Marber and Chrysanthy Balis. It stars Natasha Richardson and Marton Csokas, with a cast also including Ian McKellen.
Asylum is the story of a bored and unfulfilled wife of a psychiatrist working at a remote mental asylum (in Britain in the 1950s), who starts a passionate but dangerous affair with one of the inmates, a jealous psychopath.
