Assaka or Ashmaka was one of the sixteen mahajanapada of Aryabarta. It was the only mahajanapada which was situated to the south of Vindhya Girishreni. Later the people spread towards south and a powerful state was formed. Its name was Rastrakuta, now in modern Maharastra.
