The Asian Football Confederation's Asian Cup 1972 finals were held in Thailand between May 7 and May 19. It was won by Iran.

On home soil, Thailand recorded its first (and as of 2006, only) ever win in an Asian Cup match, defeating Cambodia on penalties in the 3rd place final.
