The Ashtānga Hridayam is a classical book of Ayurved and is equally respectable among the Ayurvedic physicians as respected as Charak and Shushrut. Charak Samhita and Sushrut Samhita are known by their authors but Ashtang Hridaya is compiled by the Vagbhatta-I. The period of the compilation of the great book is said to be 250 to 500 B.C.

The combination of Charak, Shushrut and Vagbhatta results in Brahatrayi. Ashtang Hridaya is a combination of Surgery and Medicine.
