Anti-authoritarianism is opposition to authoritarianism, which is defined as "concentration of power in a leader or an elite not constitutionally responsible to the people" or the doctrine that advocates such absolutism in rule, as in autocracy, despotism, dictatorship, and totalitarianism. [http://www.bartleby.com/62/15/A0111500.html The term anti-authoritarianism is typically extended to include a rejection of all forms of political, social, and economic coercion.

Anti-authoritarian can also refer more broadly to those who reject the authoritarian nature of nation-states and of capitalism because of what they see as its coercive actions, top-down boss/worker hierarchic relations, and exploitative nature. Anti-authoritarian is sometimes used as another term for anarchist, or for those who agree with the anti-capitalist, non-hierarchial, and anti-statist ideals of anarchism, but reject the label anarchist.
