Trivia

Because of the dominance of Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees in the AL East as well as AL Central having been the weakest division in American League, this division as of 2005 was the only one in all of baseball that had never produced a wild card team. However, as of the midpoint of the 2006 season, the Chicago White Sox had a 6-game advantage over the New York Yankees for the wild-card berth, making an end to the drought likely.

The Chicago White Sox are the only team from the division that has won the World Series. (since the inception of the division)

Three teams (the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins) have dominated the AL Central standings from its 1994 inception to date; the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals and (while they were in the AL Central) Milwaukee Brewers have as of 2005 never won a Central Division Championship.
