Amano-Iwato (ja:天岩戸) literally means "The cave of the sun god" of "heavenly rock cave". In Japanese mythology, Susanoo, the Japanese god of the seas, was the one who drove Amaterasu into Amano-Iwato. This caused the sun to hide for a long period of time.

As portrayed in the Blue Seed anime series, Amano-Iwato was the place were Susanoo was reborn, with the help of the kushinada's twin sister, Kaede.
