The Allegheny Front is the portion of the escarpment that delineates the eastern edge of the Appalachian Plateau in the region known as the Allegheny Mountains. The Front extends southwesterly from south-central Pennsylvania, through western Maryland, and into eastern West Virginia and is bordered on the East by the westernmost valley of the Ridge and Valley Province of the Appalachians; to the West of the Front lie the Allegheny Mountains.
The front has an elevational change of up to three thousand feet.
