Alert Bay is a small community on Cormorant Island, British Columbia, Canada. Cormorant Island consists primarily of the village Alert Bay.
Approximately half of the population is made up of First Nations people.
There is one automatic teller machine and one grocery store as well as one museum in Alert Bay. In 1921, the government ripped the community of a good portion of their goods, such as wooden masks, copper shields, and potlatch-dance regalia which were placed in the U’mista Cultural Centre. During the 70s and 80s, the population regained their possessions after long negotiations. The artifacts that were in the Cultural center were given back to the town population as well as items stored in other museums.
