Brothers Albert and David Maysles were a documentary filmmaking team whose works include Salesman, Gimme Shelter and Grey Gardens. Their 1964 film on The Beatles forms the backbone of the DVD The First U.S. Visit. David Maysles (born January 10, 1931, Boston, Massachusetts) died in 1987; Albert Maysles (born November 26, 1926, Boston, Massachusetts), whom Jean-Luc Godard called "the best American cameraman," * has continued to make films, with new collaborators.
He was given a lifetime achievement award at Czech film festival AFO in 2005 at the age of 79. He was the subject of a direct-cinema profile documenting his visit by American filmmaker Christopher Seufert and he is also the subject of his own autobiographical documentary, which has yet to be released by Maysles Associates.
