The Akal Takht (, ) is the second holiest shrine of the Sikhs. Akal means The Timeless One - another term for God. Takht means 'throne'. Hence, Akal Takht translates as The Throne of the Timeless One.It sits directly in front of the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar. The Akal Takht was made by the Sikhs' sixth Guru, Guru Har Gobind. It was built for the Sikhs to discuss temporal issues whereas the Harmandir Sahib was for spiritual issues(the concept of 'Miri' and 'Piri').
The head priest or jathedar of the Akal Takht is recognised as the highest spiritual authority in all of Sikhdom. The present head priest is Sardar Joginder Singh Vedanti.
