Agony was a British television sitcom produced by London Weekend Television for the ITV network.
The series starred Maureen Lipman as Jane Lucas, an agony aunt, who is highly successful in her career working at radio call-in show in London but whose personal life is a shambles. Her Jewish mother, Bea (Maria Charles), interferes in all aspects of her life. Jane's psychiatrist husband Laurence (Simon Williams) is unreliable, all the people she works with are tireless self-promoters including the libidinous journalist Vincent Fish played by Bill Nighy.
Three series were made between 1979 and 1981. The series creator, and main writer for the first series, was noted agony aunt Anna Raeburn. In 1995, the concept was revived by the BBC as Agony Again with Lipman and Charles reprising their original roles for the new series. Anna Raeburn did not have input for the revival.
