Arthur Reed Ropes (December 23 1859September 10 1933) was better known under the pseudonym Adrian Ross a lyricist of British musical comedies in the late 19th and early 20th century.

An esteemed Cambridge University don, historian, and a translator of French and German literature. Winner of the Chancellor's Medal for verse. He created the fictitious Ross due to a concern that writing musicals would compromise his professional career.

Under the name Adrian Ross he produced more than 60 libretti for the London stage.
