Adlai E. Stevenson High School, Stevenson High School, or SHS, is a public four-year high school located near the corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Half Day Road in Lincolnshire, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of High School District 125, which is fed from Aptakisic-Tripp Community Consolidated School District 102 and Lincolnshire-Prairieview School District 105.
History
Stevenson High School was established in
1965 and named after
Adlai E. Stevenson II. The campus is comprised of two classroom buildings, an administrative center, a field house, an aquatic center, a sports center, and various outdoor athletic fields. There are also four student-accessible labs, a teacher-training room, and an
audio-visual lab.
Each classroom contains a projector and television. Every morning at the beginning of first period, a team of students called Stevenson Network News broadcasts the announcements on every TV throughout the school.
The odyssey is a bi-annual two-day fine arts festival in which all students and faculty participate in order to fill the state requirement for fine arts. Participants select from over 200 classes, seminars, and performances given by volunteers from the community. Choices range from local bands and acapella groups to TV procucers and improv troupes to yo-yo experts and jugglers.
Academics
In 2005, Stevenson had an average composite
ACT score of 25.1, and graduated 99.0% of its senior class. The average class size is 13.5. Stevenson has made
Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievement s Examination, a state test part of the
No Child Left Behind Act.

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence in Education to Stevenson in 1987, 1991, 1998 and 2002. Among other awards, Stevenson won the U.S. Department of Education's New American High School Award in 1998. Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report have ranked Stevenson among the top 100 high schools in America.
Students at Stevenson have access to a college and career counselling center which is run by college consultants Sue Biemeret and Melanie Coffman along with career coach Jim Feurer. In addition, Pat Wilder, Stevenson's business liaison, offers opportunities for internships in many different professions.
Athletics
Stevenson competes in the
North Suburban Conference. Its mascot is the
Patriots. Stevenson's Athletic Director is John D. Martin.
Stevenson's cross-country team students are placed respectively, 2nd, 10th, 4th, and 22nd at the state meet from 2002-2005. Olympian Mark Deady and IHSA 1600 record holder as well as 2 time cross-country state champion Pat Joyce are among Stevenson's long line of state qualifers and all-state athletes. Stevenson won the Men's Midwest High School Championships for the first time in fending for the 2005-2006 season
