Action (Formerly Action Food Barns) was the third largest supermarket chain in Australia. Based in Perth, Western Australia, Action had 80 Supermarkets across Western Australia, Queensland & New South Wales. Its generic brand range was called Basics and its corporate generic brand range was called Signature Range. Action's last slogan was "Action means a great deal". Previous slogans included "Packed Full of Great Shopping Ideas" & "Packed Full of Good Taste".
Action served in excess of 750,000 customers every week and employed over 7,800 staff. Total supermarket trading area at the end of the November 2003 was approximately 159,000 square metres.
Action was originally a supermarket chain operating exclusively in Western Australia. In March 2006, Metcash announced that it will convert much of the remaining Action supermarkets into Supa IGA and IGA stores. All but 1 Store in Western Australia have converted to IGA or Supa IGA. This last store is located at Westfield Whitford City in Hillarys, Western Australia.
Other Action locations include Coffs Harbour, on the northern New South Wales coast line.
Despite the takeover, A new Action will open in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane in the second half of 2006.
