The cricket frogs (genus Acris) are frogs in the Hylidae family, and are found in the USA, Canada and Mexico. They are highly variable in color and pattern, and are easily confused with frogs in the genus Pseudacris. The typical habitat for both species of Cricket Frog are bodies of shallow water, with good cover in the form of vegetation. They are named for their mating calls, which resemble the noise of a cricket (insect).
