• Theodoric, king of the Ostrogoths, continues his invasion of Italy with the approval of Byzantine emperor Zeno.
• August 28 - Theodoric defeats Odoacer at the Battle of Isonzo, forcing his way into Italy.
• September 27 - Odoacer attacks Theodoric again at the Battle of Verona, and is defeated a second time.
