  • The inhabitants of Babylon are moved elsewhere. End of the city.
  • Battle of Beneventum: the Romans under Manius Curius Dentatus finally defeat Pyrrhus. The Romans were at first thrown back near their camps, but subsequently turned back the elephants, which crushed into Pyrrhus's phalanx, led to a decisive victory for the Romans in a counterattack. In defeat, Pyrrhus was reputed to have said:"What a fine field of battle I leave here for Rome and Carthage."
