The Fall ist eine englische Punk Rock-Gruppe, die 1976 in Manchester gegründet wurde. Die Band, die nach dem Roman La Chute (dt. Der Fall) von Albert Camus benannt wurde, spielte seitdem eine oft herausfordernde Musik in unvorhersagbaren Stilrichtungen.

Im Mittelpunkt der Band stand von Anfang an Mark E. Smith, der auch das einzige konstante Bandmitglied ist. The Fall hatten seit der Gründung 49 verschiedene Mitglieder und veröffentlichten 88 Alben sowie 45 Singles. Einige Einflüsse, die sich heraushören lassen, stammen von Bands wie Captain Beefheart, Can oder Velvet Underground. The Fall haben seit ihrer Gründung eine überzeugte Fangemeinde um sich gesammelt. Zu ihnen gehören beispielsweise der Radio-DJ John Peel oder der Musiker Henry Rollins. The Fall gelten als "musicians' musicians", d. h. als Band, die weniger vom breiten Publikum, dafür aber um so mehr von anderen Musikern und Musikkennern gehört wird.
